For the second time in less than two years, the Millennium Wrestling Federation will have an active WWE Superstar appearing at a live MWF event, as at our 11th anniversary BIG BANG BIRTHDAY BASH Saturday, September 22nd at Memorial Hall in Melrose, MA, longtime Smackdown General Manager Teddy Long joins 2012 WWE Hall of Famer Ron Simmons, Big Daddy V / Viscera, MWF President Paul Bearer, Al Snow and TNA X-Division Champion Zema Ion. It's yet another amazing opportunity for MWF Superfans to meet a star right off of WWE TV as we had in 2011 when Daniel Bryan competed while WWE US Champion.
President Bearer is looking for an expert opinion in evaluating what is expected to be a changing MWF roster in the months to come, and with Long's resume, certainly feels he's the man for the job in September.
Teddy Long's career speaks for itself. He broke into the sport "the old school way" making runs for the wrestlers in the locker room, breaking down the ring, etc., while being paid nothing. He went on to become a referee in Jim Crockett's NWA affiliate before he shocked wrestling fans by helping the Varsity Club rob the Road Warriors of the tag team titles on the Clash of Champions (the same event featuring the Ric Flair-Ricky Steamboat classic and the same day as WWE WrestleMania V). Long went on to become a successful manager with a list of the elite and the "where are they now's": Doom (Ron Simmons, who will also be there September 22nd, and Butch Reed, Norman the Lunatic, the Skyscrapers (Sid Vicious, Dan Spivey & Mark Callous - who became The Undertaker), the One Man Gang, Johnny B. Badd, 2 Cold Scorpio, Marcus Alexander ("Buff") Bagwell, Jim Powers, Bobby Eaton and countless others. He was named Manager of the Year by both WCW and Pro Wrestling Illustrated magazine.
In the late 90's, Teddy once again donned a referee's outfit, this time in WWE, where he officiated some of the company's biggest bouts during "The Attitude Era." In 2002, Long returned to the managerial ranks, representing athletes such as Mark Henry, D-Lo Brown, Christopher Nowinski, Jazz, Rodney Mack, Mark Jindrak and others.
In 2004, Long took advantage of the open General Manager position on Smackdown and has help the spot there along with ECW off and on ever since, making him one of the most successful individuals to hold such a job in wrestling history. Teddy created matches with unique stipulations, created the New Talent Initiative (similar to the MWF's Call To Action Campaign), even competed in the squared circle against Eric Bischoff in a battle of GM's at Survivor Series 2005 in a match he went on to win with the help of MWF alumni The Boogeyman.
In addition to creating top matches for Smackdown superstars, Long has found himself in continued feuds of his own, with Vickie Guerrero as well as John Laurinaitis. This year at WrestleMania XXVIII, Long and Laurinaitis led teams in a giant 12-man tag team match that saw "Big Johnny" become the GM of both Raw and Smackdown.
As we speak, the Smackdown GM has not been named since Laurinaitis lost both jobs, and Long is a rumored favorite to reclaim his longtime job.
